First show of the new Metalcal Dictionary from CraneKick.net! Bringing you metal, rock, punk and anything hard.

Hey all, welcome to the first of our new metal/punk/hard rock show on CraneKick.net: Metalcal Dictionary. This show is definitely explicit and shouldn’t be listened to by the faint of heart or morals. This time we’ve got Moody on decks bringing you some straight up death metal with a few surprises mixed in there. We’re hoping to bring you a show once or twice a month and maybe switch out DJs as the genre warrents, so keep at it and check out the shows as they come.

The name of the show comes from when me and my buddies would make up metal song names using a medical dictionary to basically say gory things, but in a scientific way. You know, cuz it’s metal to be smart. Anyway, turn it up and rock the fuck out!

Comin' at ya every other Wednesday night! This time we've got a bit of a special treat: a little house mix by our very own Moody in PDX.

Hey all, sorry for the lack of podcasts comin’ at ya, but several of us have had to get our lives in order. Not to worry, I’ll be bringing you the turkeydinner show every other Wednesday night (9pm-ish, but if you subscribe you’ll get it when it comes!) from now on!

This time we’ve got a bit of a special treat: a little house mix by our very own Moody in PDX.

Some folks have wondered what software we all use to make our podcasts, and while some of the other DJs I know have dabbled in Apple’s Garageband (which is dead simple and recommended), I’ve tried to keep it a bit purest and use software that allows me to mix live. In other words, the podcasts you hear, I did in real time. No dragging and dropping tracks over here! That said, Moody used the same software to mix together some house tracks. The software we use is called Djay and is the best all digital DJing software I’ve been able to find. Definitely something you should check out if you’re interested in DJing but don’t want to lug around records.

But enough of that!

Tracks:

The summer heat had nearly burned us to a crisp out here in “rainy” Portland, OR, but we survived, albeit a little scathed, a little hurt, a little in need of something chill (literally and figuratively) to help us lick our wounds, recover and be ready for the last month of summer.

That’s why this time around, turkeydinner will be served with some orchestrated jazz. What it was, is and has become. The whole lot.

Like a lot of jazz coming out these days, some of the very best stuff is no longer coming out of the United States anymore. That’s why you’re going to hear some stuff from Germany, France and the UK. But here is one group that while from the very core of the US, gets more radio play overseas than here. They are the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble out of Chicago and they are not to be missed or ignored. YouTube has a plethora of videos and street performances. Here’s one I fancy:

One of their tracks is in today’s podcast as well as many other great works. So sit back and relax and let these songs smooth your summer blues away…

Not all love songs are sappy. Moody gives us a sample of some of the rougher, dancier and more groovin' love songs out there.

Hey all, Moody here welcoming you to the first turkeydinner show on CraneKick.net. Really excited to be a part of this project and hope it lasts and lasts, forever and ever. And ever.

For those of you in the know, I’ve just started this whole music show thing up again over here. Like Glenda said, I was missing all the fun I had blowing off school and doing a DJ show down in San Diego for KSDT. Back then, we didn’t actually broadcast on the air, since we were too close to the border*, but we did have a cable access show and we streamed live over the internet with — get this — RealAudio!

Ah, those were the days. I still have some of those shows on tape. Cassette tape.

But back to the matter at hand. For the inaugural CraneKick-flavored turkeydinner we’re going to talk about love. Yes, love. Ah, love. Oh damn, love? Really?

Yes, really. But not all love songs are sappy. I’ll give you a sample of some of the rougher, dancier and more groovin’ love songs out there. Enjoy!

Once again, the two flavors:

The first is your standard MP3, which is down below, at the end of this post. (If you’re reading this in a feed reader, then obviously this information doesn’t so much apply!) It can be previewed and played right here on this web page, or downloaded for your amusement at the link under the embedded player.

The second, which you’ve probably cruised by already if you’ve gotten down to this part of the post thus far, is above in a video box. That video box is an iTunes enhanced M4A file, with thumbnails and links and the whole nine. It too can be downloaded at the link below the box, or you can preview and play the whole thing above. (However, I suppose if you’ve played the file in the box already up there, then you’ve already figured that part out.)

The photo above is awesome. Also, it’s a promo photo I found of Moloko. They broke up so they can’t stop us.

* In the U.S. of A., non-commercial radio is designated to the bands lower than 92.1 FM. In the U.S. of Mexico, the non-commercial bands are above 92.1 FM. But since radio waves don’t care about international borders, evil American radio companies (slingers of one-hit wonders and massive advertising) go down Mexico way and buy up all the low bands, effectively creating a blanket of commerical only radio over the whole San Diego area. Sad, really.
